NWB FUND
The NWB Fund was established to contribute globally to improving water management. The fund's activities focus on ensuring sufficient and clean water in an environment protected from flooding.
To achieve this goal, the NWB Fund has been co-financing international collaborative projects (government-to-government) of the Dutch water authorities since its inception in 2006.
With funding from the NWB Fund, we assist water authorities in addressing the growing demand for their expertise in solving global water issues. Since 2014, water authorities have operated collectively under the name Dutch Water Authorities.
The NWB Fund is an endowment fund for and by the water authorities. The fund's initial capital consists of donations from the NWB Bank, and projects are financed from the fixed interest on these donations. Since 2008, the NWB Fund has held ANBI status.

OUR FOCUS
-
The Challenge: Sustainable water management worldwide
The challenges surrounding water management globally are immense, and the international demand for Dutch water expertise continues to grow strongly.
In addition to investing in infrastructure, many countries face the significant task of organizing sustainable water management around that infrastructure.
The Dutch water authorities are internationally recognized as a leading and sustainable governance model from which much can be learned.

Our Course: Climate adaptation with impact
The NWB Fund has chosen a clear course to contribute globally to integrated water management: climate adaptation in a nature- and human-inclusive manner.
This means we focus on nature-based solutions (utilizing natural processes) and social inclusion (involving local communities and vulnerable groups).
This approach not only strengthens biodiversity but also enhances the social and economic resilience of regions.
The foundation for this course is outlined in our strategy document and is further supported by specific initiatives such as the Focal Points.
These lead groups focus on knowledge development, knowledge sharing, and the application of these principles in water authority projects.

Working together for Sustainable Solutions
Since 2014, the Dutch water authorities have operated collectively abroad under the name Dutch Water Authorities. Since 2018, they have collaborated with the Dutch Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Infrastructure & Water within the Blue Deal program. This program allows water authorities to execute projects with longer timelines and larger budgets.
The NWB Fund specifically focuses on strengthening this international collaboration. We support water authorities in further professionalizing their contributions to long-term projects, enabling them to achieve better results and greater impact through programs like the Blue Deal.
Our Ambition
The NWB Fund aims to connect practical water management expertise with the world's significant water challenges in an inspiring and effective way. Together with partners, the fund strives to create sustainable, innovative, and inclusive solutions that not only improve water management but also contribute to a resilient and livable future for both people and nature.
