This fall, the NWB Fund will launch a second KIWI program. Once again, water professionals will be trained to contribute to international projects. KIWI stands for Knowledge and Introduction Program for Water Authorities Internationally. This time, the focus will be on climate adaptation, as the NWB Fund aims to give it a boost.

The program was developed after consultations with various colleagues from water authorities and the Union of Water Authorities. The result is a two-year program consisting of a mix of theory and practice:

  • Learning sessions on climate adaptation, environmental management, and project development. These are key success factors for making a difference.

  • Participation in an international water authority project, such as the Blue Deal, including foreign work visits. This allows participants to actively contribute to a project.

  • Developing innovations for climate-related issues that are relevant in multiple countries. We can learn from each other, both abroad and in the Netherlands.

Each water authority and the Union of Water Authorities is allowed to nominate one person for participation. The NWB Fund is looking for participants with expertise in one of the following fields: climate adaptation, environmental management, or project development, and preferably some international experience. The goal is for the new KIWI group to quickly contribute to international water authority projects.

The NWB Fund will reimburse part of the time commitment to reduce the barrier for participation. This way, the fund aims to strengthen personnel capacity for international projects, alongside initiatives like co-financing local Young Expert Professionals (YEPs).

The international coordinators of the water authorities have been asked to organize the recruitment of participants within their respective authorities. They can submit candidates by June 17th; the final selection will be announced in mid-July.
